Biography
DJ Cringey was born in Christchurch, New Zealand, and grew up near Mannheim, Germany. Making mixtapes and exploring the region’s club culture preceded her own DJ career. She worked in graphic design and moved to Berlin in 2019, where an impromptu opportunity to play at a party became an early booking. The name DJ Cringey grew out of house-party mixes that freely crossed genres, an approach that still informs the humour and surprise in her selections.
Her music brings techno, acid, EBM and house together with vocals and sudden shifts of mood. Cringey Core, released on 27 March 2025 through Bamboo Artists, contains nine tracks and collaborations with Fanny, DJ Kirby, Sky Leon and Polizei. Alongside her solo work, she forms the Berlin duo HARD CANDY with TOXIMAMI. The duo draws on donk, psytrance, techno and baile funk, extending the playful vocal approach heard in their individual work.
Her collaboration Fitness with Odymel and HARD CANDY connects that shared project with her own vocals. In interviews in 2025 and early 2026, she also described Don’t Date Rappers as a project bringing electronic producers and German rap artists together, with greater emphasis on her unpitched voice.
